Whether you’re a fan of Dua Lipa’s music, it’s hard to deny she’s one of the coolest celebrities of our time. It’s not just her outer beauty and style. She radiates joy and warmth in interviews, and she seems like a genuinely lovely person. As soon as I saw she’d filmed a “What’s in Dua Lipa’s purse video,” I ran to watch it. I was happily surprised to see so many odes to slow living among her possessions! Here are some things in Dua Lipa’s purse that make me think she’s a fan of the slow life despite her massive fame.
Journal
One of the first signs that Dua Lipa is more into slow living than her superstar persona suggests is her physical journal. Journaling is a valuable routine that can build mindfulness and, as such, can be the cornerstone of a quiet life. Choosing a physical journal over a digital one can be most effective because it requires you to pause and become present. Dua Lipa’s journal seems well-loved (she admits it’s falling apart). Hers looks like a softcover journal, similar to one of my favorite Moleskine journals. I’m sure it’s overflowing with memories, reflections, insights, and ideas.

Polaroids
In addition to a digital camera, Dua Lipa’s purse contains Polaroids. She uses them to mark meaningful moments, like her NPR Tiny Desk appearance, as well as everyday moments and the people she shares experiences with. Printed photographs are so special because they romanticize our lives while reminding us of what’s most important. Oftentimes, I find photos get lost in my phone’s camera roll and I rarely scroll back to those memories. Using a Polaroid camera or a portable photo printer gives us tangible reminders without the screen time or digital clutter.

Physical Books
As an avid reader, I was so excited to learn that Dua carries physical books with her at all times. There were two books in her purse – Hernán Diaz’s In the Distance and Not a River by Selva Almada – and she mentioned she often travels with more in her suitcase (my kind of girl). In my experience, reading has been a transformative hobby; it gives my brain time to recharge and also sparks my creativity. It’s a consistent part of my slow living lifestyle. In Dua Lipa’s case, it also seems like she’s also reading for connection which is equally important. She hosts a monthly book club through her lifestyle curation platform, Service95.

Wired Headphones
One of the most endearing parts of this video was seeing Dua Lipa pull out at least four pairs of wired Apple iPhone headphones from her purse. As someone who chooses wired headphones over Airpods every day, I found this so relatable. I agree with Dua when she says there’s something more appealing about wired headphones: it’s one less thing to charge, they never run out of battery, they’re harder to lose, and they’re much more affordable. There’s also something nostalgic about them.

Tarot Cards
This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a celebrity carry tarot cards, and I find it so interesting that so many successful women cherish this tool. A tarot deck isn’t just for telling the future. The cards can help us reflect, learn about ourselves, and channel our intuition. It seems the deck Dua Lipa keeps in her purse is used for daily reflection and decision-making. Tarot cards can be a tool for a slower lifestyle because they force us to stop, to use our senses, and engage our minds. This is one of my favorite decks and interpretation guides.

Unique Souvenirs
Dua Lipa’s purse is decorated with smalll charms curated during her travels. She’ll likely cherish them forever. Unique souvenirs are so much more meaningful because they tell stories. Seeking out special objects will create a stronger sense of connection between you and your memories, and they’ll help you embrace quality over quantity. When something is truly special, you don’t need as much, which is a component of slower living.

Conclusion
The contents of Dua Lipa’s purse are so interesting not just because she’s a Grammy award winning talent, but because they’re signs pointing to a love for a simpler, romanticized life. I think they’re lovely reminders to go slower and savor life.
